Community isn’t just where we live—it’s how we thrive.

Whether it’s gathering with like-minded neighbours, launching a campaign to inspire change, or simply sharing stories over coffee, community is what breathes life into our towns and streets. Yet many people around us have become disconnected—cut off from local opportunities, or unsure how to re-engage.

That’s where we come in.

As Community Builders, our mission is simple: to strengthen the community by connecting people. Whether someone wants to start a book group, set up a walking club, or simply find companionship, we’re here to offer support, ideas, and encouragement.

We’re lucky to live in a vibrant place with three welcoming community centres, lively churches, and plenty of sporting options—from Barton Cricket Club to The Acorn Centre. But what makes our area truly special is the people who step up to make it better.

Take the Local History and Reminiscence Group, for example. Meeting monthly at the Acorn Centre café (third Wednesday at 1:30pm), this group brings memories alive. Our older residents have shared vivid recollections of World War II—stories told through a child’s eyes, rich with detail and emotion. There’s even talk of turning these gatherings into school visits, offering young people a ‘live’ history lesson from those who lived it.

Beyond organised groups, we also encourage simple acts of kindness: helping a neighbour trim their hedge, visiting someone who’s housebound, or offering a friendly hello on the street. These small moments build trust, warmth, and a sense of belonging, right on your doorstep.
