Willows, Watcombe & Higher Barton community partnership has a commitment to improve the well being of all sections of the community. To this aim we want any member of the ward to come and tell us of their ideas, problems and views for the future. The Partnership has been successful in a Big Lottery play bid for improved play equipment on Starpitten Green. Children were consulted over which equipment they wanted and a scheme for over £100,000 worth of improvement to play facilities was developed.
The three pieces of equipment currently being installed are the first step of this project. The play equipment is for more adventurous play and should be ready for use in the next two weeks. The remainder of the project – a younger children’s play area and an enclosed multi use games area – will be funded by Torbay Council in the spring of next year. There are regular meetings with local residents to tackle issues as the project progresses.
The partnership has been most successful in engaging with the community on the Watcombe Estate. It is keen to get more people involved from Watcombe Park and the Barton area. The partnership alternates its meetings between the Watcombe Community Centre and the Acorn Youth Centre and anyone who lives or works in the area we cover is welcome to attend.
