There’s always a variety of activities on around the Bay – from Big annual events such as the Brixham Pirate Festival, dotted throughout the year, to smaller groups and events at community halls, cafes, pubs and many more.

Whatever the weather, there is always something happening right on your doorstep.

Our Community Builders regularly update a comprehensive list of what’s on and publish it on our website, so you never need to feel lonely at home and never be bored.

There is something for everyone, no matter your age or ability, and if it is not in your neighbourhood, you can check out things happening in other areas right across the Bay.

All the major events are covered from the Airshow to next week’s World Stand Up Paddling Championships, but it is the smaller community listings that we specialise in, and there are literally hundreds of them.

There are one-off events, weekly and monthly meetings and a comprehensive list of everything happening in Torbay throughout the year, from walks to coffee mornings and craft groups to exercise classes, covering everything in between.

Something for the weekend? We have that covered. Want to reignite a past passion? We will know where you need to go. Yearning for company and ready to meet new friends? We are all over it.

A great starting point is a chat with your local Community Builder – they cover every neighbourhood in the Bay and specialise in helping anyone and everyone find their passion, ensuring no one becomes lonely and isolated.

We are confident that you will be pleasantly surprised by the breadth of activities on offer and you are welcome to do as much or as little as you like. Many are free, some do charge but either way the vast majority are easily affordable.

For example, if you are looking for something in the Wellswood area, that is covered by Marianne Parker (07469 660875), you could spend your Monday afternoons at the Lincombe Hall Hotel where people gather for an afternoon tea and chat.

Not free on Monday’s? No problem, you could get along to the Kents Pub on Tuesdays between 11-12.15 pm for coffee and chat, or if that does not float your boat, then there is line dancing in the Memorial between 11.30-12.30 pm or the German Club meets the first Tuesday of the month back at the Lincombe Hall Hotel between 2.30-3.30 pm.

On the first Wednesday of the month the Writer’s Club meets between 2- 4.00 pm (ring Sarah on 07905 620106 for the venue) and the Book Club meets in the Ilsham Café on the first Thursday of the month between 2.15-3.30 pm. Or if you are looking for a regular Thursday activity, there is the Meadfoot sea walk and Meadfoot Cafe tea and chat between 2-4.00 pm. Meet at the café end by the bench near to the road.

And finally, there is another coffee and chat gathering in Kents Cavern Café that meets weekly on a Friday between 11-12.30 pm. That’s everything but the weekend covered and the choice is down to you.

Add to that eight different forms of exercise and dance classes that meet throughout the week, covering everything from ballet for children to Happy Dancing and from Pilates to Friday Keep Fit and all your workout needs are met.

Finally, there are craft groups, choirs and Spanish students that meet weekly at various venues along with a Mummy and Me group and another for Toddlers, to all ages are catered for as well.

What is happening in Wellswood and the surrounding area is mirrored in communities and neighbourhoods across the Bay, which means that venues in all areas are filled with smiling faces on a daily basis. Loneliness is banished, and friendships are forged.

What is more, if you are nervous about taking the first, sometimes overwhelming, step, then your Community Builder will be with you all the way. They will, if necessary, go along with you until you settle in and make those all-important first introductions.
