Wellswood is Blooming!
Summer in Wellswood has been a super season for planting and growing this year!
Friends of Stoodley Knowle are delighted that Stoodley Meadow has regained its green flag for 24/25. Whilst the extensively wet winter and spring has made the management of docks, thistles and cow parsley in the meadow very difficult this year, it has also encouraged latent seeds to flourish. There has been a sudden and profound increase in the perennials; lady’s smock, buttercups, wild carrot, vetch, red clover, birdsfoot and oxeye daisies have begun to establish themselves all over the site. Management of the Cafe compostables and coffee grains continue to enhance the compost heap, providing nutrients for the beds throughout the year. People in the park are making new friends on the new Friendship Bench installed on the woodland side. FoSK has raised over £3,500 with Table Top Sales since they started them in 2017 and all of this goes into improving the Greenspace. If you enjoy the Park and would like to join them please ring 01803 295368 or 215107. No gardening experience necessary.
FoSK celebrated National Meadows Day, the RHS 60th Anniversary and their 10th Birthday on Saturday 6th July with a Tea Party. It was attended by past members, long-term supporters and fellow green-space warriors from Clennon Lakes, Upton Park, Tessier Gardens and Babbacombe Bay Bloomers. Much cake was eaten.
On Bank Holiday Monday 26th August, the Velvet Buccaneers and Vinyl Avengers will be holding a fundraiser for the Rowcroft Hospice and FoSK between 12 and 6pm, at Stoodley Meadow Park. Come along, get down to some great soul sounds, and enjoy this lovely Park.
The Wellswood Community Partnership would like to thank everyone involved in making their shop or business fronts look incredible for ‘Wellswood in Bloom’. The standard of competition was high with Gold Medals awarded to the Flower Corner, Ilshams and The Sanctuary receiving the overall honour of the Patrick Joyce Memorial Trophy. The new wildflower beds on Wellswood Green are positively blooming and we hope everyone (including the pollinators) are enjoying them.

We have also planted aquatic plants in the water trough as a trial of creating a wildlife pond area.

Our first Pygmy Water Lily!
