THERE’S SO MUCH GOING ON IN SHIPHAY – COMMUNITY MATTERS

By Nicola Shellard, Community Builder for Shiphay

Well, the Sun had her hat on for our Jubilee cream tea in the park. It was wonderful to see Kitson Park, Shiphay, filled with so many people. There is so much going on in Shiphay.

The Monday markets are back in full swing at St John’s Church from 7.30am to 4pm on the first Monday of each month. Come along and have a coffee and warm bacon roll. It’s a great way to catch up, the next one is on August 1.

We started the Shiphay Ramblers walking group back in April when we walked to Cockington village, stopping to see spring lambs in the orchard. For our second walk, we all did the Torquay mile walking from the Grand Hotel to the Living Coasts site and back, stopping for refreshment at Pier Point where we enjoyed the glorious sunshine. Our next walk will be on July 13, meeting at 3pm at Babbacombe Model Village car park. We will be walking a flat two-mile walk along the Downs, taking in the sea views. The walk will include both Cary Park and Tessia Gardens, where the rose garden will be in full bloom. We will finish the walk at the Cliff Railway Café for refreshments at around 4.30pm. There are three toilets on the route and everyone is welcome to join us. The walk is free – just pay for your own drink at the café or bring a flask.

On Saturday, August 6, Torbay Comedy are putting on a spectacular night with some of the best comedians on the circuit at St John’s Church Hall, Shiphay. Admission will be from 7.30pm and costs £11 per person.

Also, don’t forget the community coffee morning at the Devon Dumpling, Shiphay, every Tuesday from 11am to 12.30pm. It’s a great place to meet new friends, and some weeks we have a quiz. Hot drinks are subsidised to £2 and biscuits are free. Hope to see you there.
