SPRING IN SOUTH PAIGNTON – COMMUNITY MATTERS

By Gill Knight, Community Builder for Paignton South (Goodrington, Roselands, White Rock, Hookhills, Broadsands, Galmpton and Churston)

With Spring well and truly here our thoughts often turn to our gardens, and other opportunities to get outside. In my Community Builder patch, there is plenty to look forward to: The Galmpton Open Gardens is back again this year and will be happening on 11th June 2023.

Last year saw a fantastic number of visitors enjoying the early sunshine and getting inspiration from the beautiful gardens. Put the date in your diary, and plan a day out ambling around the wonderful village of Galmpton, while looking forward to tea and cake in the Village Institute afterwards.

Staying in Galmpton, the Monthly Sunday Goodwill offers company and light entertainment on the second Sunday of the month from 2-4pm in the Village Institute, and also in Galmpton on a Friday Morning. The Stay and Play group is in the Barn Chapel from 9.15 – 11am,– call Philip 07792892226. WIth summer just around the corner, Dart Sailability is preparing for a summer on the water, offering Sailing opportunities for the disabled from Galmpton Creek on the River Dart, and comprehensive training for anyone interested in volunteering.

Following the success of the Torbay Autumn Walking Festival, there is now a chance to learn more about our fabulous bay and join the English Riviera Spring Walking Festival to be held between 22nd and 29th of April. There are history walks, challenging coastal walks, a magical musical sunset tour, and a walk linked to our seafood heritage. – more info can be found at https://www.englishriviera.co.uk/whats-on/english-riviera-walking-festival.

If you are an unpaid carer, a monthly coffee group for carers and the cared for is being held in Paignton on the first Wednesday of the month at St Pauls Church Preston from 1-3pm/ Additionally for anyone with a hearing impairment there is a drop in coffee session at Jasmyn House, Midvale Road Paignton from 10 -12 on the first Tuesday of the month, or for those with visual impairments on the 4th Tuesday of the Month.

The next Leisurely Leg Stretch for those unable to walk far or use a walker but fancy a short stroll and a friendly cup of tea will meet in front of the Inn on The Quay, Goodrington on Thursday 13th April at 2.15 pm followed by a cuppa. – We look forward to seeing you there.- call Gill 07884887063.
