15 Sep Powered by Youth event to celebrate Torbay’s children and young people

There’s still time to nominate an amazing child or young person making a difference in Torbay — with the deadline now extended to Tuesday 22 September.

The Children & Young People Awards are returning as part of this year’s Powered by Youth event on Saturday 26 September, celebrating the brilliant children and young people who live, learn, create and contribute across Torbay.

Nominations are open to recognise young people who are making a difference in their communities, supporting others, achieving something special, showing creativity, overcoming challenges, or simply being someone who deserves a bit of recognition.

The deadline for nominations has been extended from Wednesday 16 September to Tuesday 22 September.

The young people nominated will be recognised at the Powered by Youth event on 26 September.

The awards are part of Powered by Youth, an evolving Imagine This Partnership initiative exploring how we can change the way young people are listened to and how people in positions of influence listen and respond.

The first Powered by Youth event in 2025 showed what can happen when young people are given space to speak in their own way. Their experiences challenged some assumptions held by people in positions of power, including around home education and what life can look like for young people in Torbay.

This year, the event continues that work while also creating space to celebrate young people and bring families and the wider community together.

A morning for families

The morning of Powered by Youth on Saturday 26 September will be particularly focused on younger children, up to age 12, and their families.

There’ll be crafts, play, music and STEM activities, with sessions and activities from Imagine This partners including Taleblazers, Play Torbay, Crafty Fox, We Need Music and Torquay Museum.

It’s free to attend, with tea, coffee, juice and refreshments available.

Families are warmly invited to come along, have some fun, celebrate Torbay’s children and young people, and be part of the wider Powered by Youth movement.

Powered by Youth is about more than asking young people what they think. It’s about creating spaces where they can speak, making sure those voices reach the people who can make things happen, and creating opportunities for young people to be recognised, celebrated and involved.
