29 Sep Plenty more to come for Babbacombe, St Marychurch & Maidencombe! – Community Matters
Well, what a summer we have had. Despite the rain, Community Builders have participated in many fantastic events across Torbay.
St Marychurch Scarecrow Festival: this raised £1,200 for the local community. Thank you, Sally & Abbi, from Fiesta Red Florist, for your hard work in organising yet another fantastic event.
Babbacombe Fayre – Torbay Sunrise Rotary: I have never seen so many people and dogs! The Torbay Sunrise Rotary Club put on a fantastic event that raised thousands for local charities. Everyone is looking forward to next year.
Community Growing Together: Babbacombe Bay Bloomers have created a Community Seed Swap at the red phone box in St. Marychurch. With the Summer season ending, it’s a great time to collect, share and swap seeds. Place your seeds in a sealed and clearly labelled envelope in the phone box. There may be other seeds that you can swap them for. Also, good luck to the Bloomers for the RHS South West in Bloom competition that is being judged on 3rd October.
Big thank you to Lulu, owner of the Queen Elizabeth Café, for organising a great community event to commemorate the year passing of Queen Elizabeth on the 8th September. This event was enjoyed by all, and the raffle proceeds went to Babbacombe Bay Bloomers.
St. Marychurch Yarn Fairies strike again: Look out for their amazing displays at the beginning of November in St.Marychurch churchyard. This is guaranteed to be another fantastic display for all to see.
On Saturday 11th November at 10.45 a service by the Lych Gate will commemorate Armistice Day.
Don’t forget to check out The Precinct Centre, there are lots of activities going on daily throughout the year. www.precinctcentre.com 01803 329105
Dare I say it? Christmas is fast approaching. To date, this is what I have heard is happening in St.Marychurch and Babbacombe For the first time in many years, the Babbacombe Christmas Street Party on Reddenhill Road is returning on Saturday November 25 at 1.30pm, finishing at 6.30pm with the switch on of the Christmas lights. There will be entertainment, stalls, food and a grotto. It’s going to be great fun including an Elf on the Shelf competition from November 25 to December 10.
As always, I will be sharing information on what’s going on Facebook – Jennie Langridge & Amanda Lynn Community Builders (public group). Please also look on our website (the website you’re on now!) for more information about what we do.
