On The Willows, many of us are talking about the rising cost of living.

I urge everyone to look at Torbay Council’s dedicated webpage – search ‘Help with the cost of living in Torbay’. The council has provided a one-stop shop of information, support and resources if you struggle with energy, water, food and other essential items. You can find out how to apply for government schemes such as the Household Support Fund.

If you are not online and have cost of living concerns, call Torbay Community Helpline to be directed to the right source of support: 01803 446022.

Personally, I want to enjoy some activities on a budget this summer – join me at The Willows.

For families with children three to 11 years, we have a free Love Parks event with Swisco on Friday, July 29. Held in Lindisfarne Park from 1:30-3:30pm, join in with the nature trail and community artwork. Who wouldn’t want to take home their own mini-beast headband?

On Saturday, August 20, come to the Big Exchange at the lower car park of the Willow Tree pub from 11am to 2pm. Bring along anything you want to donate and walk away with anything that catches your eye! No money changes hands; this is for the community, by the community. Please note no electrical goods or furniture. Perfect for uniform swap before the start of the new school year.

On Friday, August 26, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, a free Interactive Nature Trail for families will take place at a Willows location to be confirmed. Children at all events need to be supervised by an adult.

Information and updates on activities can be found on the new Facebook page. Search Watcombe, Willows and Higher Barton Community Partnership – please like and share.

In addition to fantastic regular groups – lunch club, Mummy and Me, coffee group, community carvery and classical music appreciation – a recently launched social confidence group meets each Friday at 10am.

In this group, we visit a range of local venues to try different things in a supportive environment. Come along no pressure, just be yourself. We’re a relaxed, friendly and informal bunch. In August, we will be crafting, litter picking, event planning and more. We try to keep costs low or free. If you feel a bit hesitant, call me and we can speak and meet one to one before coming along. Enjoy the sunshine!
