16 Jun New Parkinsons’ Support & gentle exercise groups come to Torquay – Community Matters
We have some good news for Torbay, after months of planning, two new groups are starting have started.
Parkinson Social Support Group & Easy Exercise Classes to include people with Parkinson’s. To give you a flavour of how this came about and the work I do as a Community Builder, I wanted to share how it started.
I received a referral from Torbay Community Helpline to contact a lady in the community who wanted to know about any local Parkinson’s groups. So after researching Torbay and with Parkinson UK it was found that no groups were set up in the area.
I then had many conversations with the Parkinson SW Advisor about the best way to try and get something within Torbay. Speaking to the other Community Builders it was found that there was a great need for groups of this nature and so I had a chat with Anne George who had been heavily involved in one in Paignton some time ago but had sadly closed. Anne was keen to be involved and get groups started and this is how it all came together.
