04 Jun Kings Ash residents strive to look out for each other

It’s been a busy couple of months in Kings Ash, with lots of wonderful things going on for the community.

The Community noticeboards in Lutyens Drive and in front of Foxhole Shops have now been refurbished and are looking good.  Look out for any events happening in the area or if you wish to put anything on the boards, let me know.

We’re getting excited for the Pride of Place Government funding for Kings Ash and Collaton St Mary.  My Facebook page (Sarah King Ash CB) and the notice boards will be used to communicate any updates.  The community’s views and input are essential for the success of this long-term project.  If you want to know more, please let me know.

With summer approaching, we’re looking forward to getting our wellbeing walking group on a Tuesday afternoon back to the beach, for a coffee and cake.  If you would like to join us for a gentle stroll, come to the Crafty Fox in Foxhole at 1:30 every Tuesday afternoon and we’ll decide where to go from there.  Don’t worry if it’s raining, we’ll choose a dry venue as it’s about the socialising as much as walking.

We’re also really proud to say that in Kings Ash we now provide a hot meal for the children and young people for free, every day of the week during term time.  We are grateful for the considerable donations and with the hard work and dedication from the teams at Foxhole Community Centre, Great Parks Community Centre and Crafty Fox, who I would like to say a big thank you.

At Foxhole Community Centre they provide good home cooked food on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, after school.  Great Parks on a Wednesday after school and Crafty Fox on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.  Any child from the Kings Ash area is welcome.  Foxhole Community also provide food for adults on a Monday and Wednesday from 3pm – 5pm.   They also have a school uniform swap facility, again on a Monday and Wednesday.   On a Wednesday lunch time they have the WAGS (Wednesday Afternoon Gossip and Scrabble) for adults.  You can come and get lunch and join in with their friendly banter and games afternoon.   There’s also lots of things in the pipeline that Foxhole Community Centre will be providing so look out on their Facebook page or the community notice boards for further information.

Great Parks Community Centre have their Bambinos group for 0–5-year-olds and for £2.00 they also get a drink and a snack, accompanying adults can get a bacon roll for £2.00.  There is a free Tai Chi morning with Lisa Kay on a Wednesday.  The Mad Hatters after school group where the young people can go on a lovely woodland and nature walk with Sally or do some crafting or games at the Centre and don’t forget the hot meal too.  On a Monday morning there is a coffee morning at 10:30, where everyone will be given a warm welcome.

At the Crafty Fox there is a coffee morning every Tuesday, where you will be served with a very warm welcome, a Bacon or Sausage Bap and hot drink for £2.50.  The young people of Kings Ash can get food on a Tuesday with the Crafty Fox Youth Group and on a Thursday, Cycle Torbay hold their bike workshop and youth drop in, with freshly cooked pizza. Our wonderful Knit and Natter group that also runs from the Crafty Fox every Wednesday have been organising fund raising monthly Bingo on the last Friday of the Month and they have raised over £600 for good causes, one of which being the Liver Cancer Trust.

Everyone is working so hard to provide the best they can for the Kings Ash community, which is a true credit to the community.  If you have any ideas for groups or events in Kings Ash or want to know more about what there is in the area to do. Please let me know and I can help to facilitate this.

Finally, don’t feel that you are on your own.  The Kings Ash Community are here to support you.  There are lots of things going on for all ages, where there is support and friendship readily available, usually with a hot drink and cake.
