21 Jul Get in on the action in Brixham – Community Matters

Linda and Dave, aka Classic Gold
Hello, I am Helen Ambler, the new Community Builder for Brixham. I am here to help encourage people of all ages to get involved in their neighbourhood.
I can help connect you or people you know with like-minded people, groups or organisations in Brixham.
We can also explore your strengths, skills and interests, plan how these can be shared, help you work out how to take positive action on things you would like to change in your area and help to harness what is strong in your community and promote this.
Lives are transformed and positive changes happen when people of all ages work together.
New friendships are formed, activities happen and neighbours help each other with simple tasks on a day-to-day basis, which is amazing to see.
The power of personal connection is proven to reduce isolation and transform the quality of life for many people. I recommend joining the free Torbay Timebank through Devon Connect to share your skills and help others at devonconnect.org/torbay/torbay-timebank.
I have been in the role for three months now.
I have met many people and business owners and look forward to meeting many more of you soon.
There is so much going on in the Brixham community that many people do not know about.
The free Brixham Signal is a great resource for finding out what’s going on in Brixham, not least at YES!Brixham, which has a full timetable of groups to join in with.
Linda and Dave of Classic Gold (pictured above), are often seen performing outside the YES! Charity shop but also perform at The Edge once a month, playing live music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, pop, rock ‘n’ roll and country.
Claire Jones runs a Craft and Chat friendship group every Friday in the Front Room 2pm – 4pm and for only £1 includes refreshments. Bring your craft with you and chat while doing something fun and rewarding for yourself.
There is loads going on over at the library, lots of great shows happening at the theatre and the museum is well worth a visit; it is free but relies on donations.
There is a Berry Head Summer Ramble on July 29, a free event for families organised by the Brixham Community Partnership. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential on 07810525922.
Brixham Does Care runs various groups and activities and has just set up a new group on Mondays called the Olde Buoys. A group for men to enjoy some good company and banter.
If you have a good idea that will enhance your local neighbourhood or have some time to give to your community or know anyone needing any help to get out and about and make new friends, then please feel free to call me on 07469 660873 or email me: [email protected].
