This week I would like to highlight some opportunities available in Wellswood for people in Torbay who are struggling financially: They can be accessed by calling our Torbay Community Helpline on 01803 446022 to make the referral for you.
The Riviera Life Church on Babbacombe Road, next to Torquay Museum, has the following Community Activities on Thursdays 10am -2pm:
- Warm & Welcoming space – free hot food & drinks to eat on the premises or take away
- Riviera Life Storehouse – foodbank and food club for those in food poverty.
- Riviera Life Babybank for families with preschool children who need help with essential baby items
- Riviera Life Homestore –household essentials; including furniture, bedding & kitchen items
- Free Benefits Advice by appointment or drop-in
- Free shower with toiletries & towel supplied as well as a selection of free clean, used clothing.
Tuesdays 10-12pm Riviera Life CAP Job Club – 8-week course for people who want to start or return to employment. (contact Sue Matthews on 07414099459)
Monday 10-12pm (term-time only) Riviera Tots – parent/carer toddler group for babies and children under 4 years.

St Matthias Church, also on Babbacombe Road, offers a welcome space on Wednesdays between 12 and 2pm with hot drinks and soup. There will be a free EcoFest there on Saturday 2nd December from 12 til 4:30 pm – a free day of talks, displays and family activities focusing on the impact of climate change and what we can do to care for the environment globally and locally. This will include the opportunity to talk to Exeter Community Energy for tips on saving energy. The wonderful Wellswood Christmas Street Fayre is returning on Thursday 14th December from 4.30 – 9pm .
Our delicious Community Christmas Lunch will be at the Headland Hotel on Tuesday 5 December at 12.30.

Our Fantastic Flashmobbers
The Fantastic Torbay Flashmobbers will be joining The Standing Tall Partnership to raise awareness during 16 days of action which is a global campaign against gender-based violence. The campaign starts on the 25 November, White Ribbon Day which is the international day for the elimination of violence against women and girls and ends on Human Rights Day on the 10th of December. Come and join us or look for our events in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham over 16 days of action.
