Cultivating Friendship and Community Spirit as Spring Dawns

As the warmth of spring approaches and in the spirit of the season, our communities are coming together to share a bit of friendship and support for one another and our local area. Initiatives are sprouting up around Torre & Upton to encourage indoor and outdoor activities, combatting loneliness and isolation for all ages. From community groups to fitness classes in Upton Park, small social groups, a games and social at TQ2 Club every Thursday 4.30-6.30pm, Monthly Adventurers Lunch group and a new Craft Group we hope to get off the ground by Spring. There is also Table Tennis twice a week at The Foyer, plus the Boulder Bunker for all climbing enthusiasts. Regular groups and talks at U3A, Upton Vale Baptist Church, The Together Church, Upton Social Club, St Mary Mags Church and All Saints Church. Learning & Wellbeing programs at Shekinah in Endeavour House and also at the Library.

Community gardens are also gaining popularity, providing a space for residents to connect with nature, cultivate produce, and share gardening tips. These green spaces not only contribute to physical health but also benefit mental wellbeing, as volunteers come together to tend to the gardens. We also support local schools and group visits. If you are interested in getting involved please do get in touch as we are always looking for volunteers at Cricketfield Gardens, St Andrews grounds, and maybe in Spring we might be able to focus on the Memorial Gardens.

We know Spring is a time of growth, and our community nurtures more than just plants and personal well-being—it’s cultivating a sense of togetherness. Acts of kindness and generosity are like seeds planted in the community, growing into a garden of goodwill. Community events and gatherings will start being organised, providing opportunities for residents to connect, forge new friendships, and strengthen existing bonds.

Volunteer initiatives are also on the rise, with residents & businesses dedicating their time to beautifying public spaces, organising community events & socials to bring us all together. Working together we’re creating a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences and shared goals.
