Cryptosporidium Outbreak update – 10:40am, 17th May 2024

Our Community Builders are working to support vulnerable people in Brixham and Paignton following the Cryptosporidium outbreak.

A Boil Water notice has been sent to affected areas by South West Water (SWW).  The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have offered a Public Health Advice document, to clarify what this notice means and how best to stay safe if you’ve received one.

A factsheet about the Cryptosporidiosis disease (spread by the Cryptosporidium parasite) has also been made available courtesy of UKHSA, covering details of symptoms, who is at risk, how to reduce your chances of infection and what to do should you/someone you know become infected.

We recommend referring to the NHS’ guide on symptoms and treatment for Diarrhoea and Vomiting, should you/anyone you know start experiencing either condition.

Service updates are being provided online by SWW on the current status of the outbreak, as well as efforts to support the community through the likes of bottled water collection points.

Current free bottled water collection points operated by SWW: (all open until 9pm)

  • Churston Car Boot Field, TQ4 7BQ
  • Broadsands Car Park, TQ4 6HX
  • Freshwater Quarry Car Park, TQ5 8BA

If you have questions about water supply, boil notice, bottled water, etc, and for the latest safety advice for water in your area, please contact SWW on: 0344346 2020 or contact them via their website.
