Brixham continues to amaze me!

Since last writing on here, Brixham has held many brilliant events all in just 3 months and all only happened due to incredible volunteers giving up their time so freely, so huge thanks to them!

In June was the fantastic Trawler Event for Fishermen’s Mission. In July was our fantastic Ceilidh fundraiser event for our charity ‘Torbay Communities’ at the Scala Hall – huge thanks to everyone who came and to Stargazy Pie and Caller for putting on such great entertainment, Blue Bossa live music on Sax, guitar and mic played in the beautiful Battery Gardens – think deckchairs, blankets and sea views amongst the trees, while being musically entertained by the lovely Paul and Phil, 2 of the many wonderful volunteers doing amazing work keeping the Battery Gardens looking so stunning all year round.

In August we had the yummy and very musically entertaining Sardine Festival and the absolutely incredible Stormfest 160 RNLI event which I think is fair to say blew everyone away from the start in Teignmouth, to the finish in Brixham!  Not to mention all the weekday evening events that went on over several nights over the whole summer, from Missin’ Tackle and the Brixham Male Orpheus Choir singing, to the Brixham Theatre live theatre entertaining us round the harbour and the Brixham Town Band playing.  All drawing in the crowds and raising much needed money for each of their own causes and other charities including the Devon Air Ambulance.

Now looking forward, we have the wonderful upcoming Brixham Festival of Good Health and Wellbeing from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September.  Hosted by the incredible volunteers from Brixham Future CIC.  They’re aiming for better health and wellbeing outcomes for local people and visitors to the town. The event focuses upon promotion of good health via education, detection, cessation of unhealthy lifestyle factors, and welfare support, balanced with access to information and promotion of physical and mental health activities.

A wide range of FREE public activities will take place around various locations in Brixham town and Galmpton, at different times of each day, including Pacific Island dancing, line dancing, taster sessions on Karate for seniors, Tai Chi, golf intro lessons, art taster sessions, Pilates, Yoga, bag pipe playing from local piper, Jean Hart (who played beautifully at the Merchant Navy Day service in Brixham on the 3rd September), Devon Drums, Riviera Singers Choir, the Time and Tide duo, Devon Air Ambulance demonstrating CPR and defibrillators, and various talks/presentations and stalls attended by over 40 local health and wellbeing organisations around the Bay.

Festival programmes are available from myself and many sales outlets in Brixham. For more information, follow “Brixham Future CIC” on Facebook, contact John Brennan (phone 01803 852270 or email [email protected]) or get in touch with me (phone 07469660873 or email [email protected])

And finally, for now, follow the Facebook page “Festival of Arts Brixham – F.A.B” for details of last year’s event returning bigger and better this October!
