04 Dec Birthdays and Festivities galore in Wellswood

We celebrated a few big birthdays in Wellswood recently!

Talented Dennis, who plays guitar and sings for Music at the Museum, celebrated his 90th birthday with friends and family.

On Tuesday, the 9th December at 2pm – 3.30pm, Dennis is returning to play and sing Xmas carols and songs at the Museum, after a break while it was closed for a while. There will be hot drinks and mince pies. Come along to join us to listen or sing with Dennis in the café at Torquay Museum.

Wonderful Eva, who was in the Wrens during the war, based at Bletchley Park, was one hundred and one years old! Her friends (Eva calls them the Friday Frolics) from the Friday Coffee Morning at Kents Cavern came to join her on the day to celebrate with a delicious cake baked by Lorraine.

On Friday, 5th December, the Lyceum Theatre is showing a film at 7.30pm about the Torbay Baton of Hope, for suicide prevention.

It follows the event on Tuesday, 30th September, when around 100 people from Torbay, who have been affected by suicide, took it in turns to carry the Baton of Hope around the Bay. Starting at Princess Gardens in Torquay at 8am, it was taken to Paignton, then Brixham, returning by lifeboat to Torquay at around 4.30pm for a celebration event. All day, there were organisations that offer support, including Torbay Communities, on hand around the Banjo at Princess Gardens. There was a live feed following the baton around the bay on a big screen, performances on stage, and our Flashmob, who danced to the poignant and uplifting song, ‘Angels’ by House Gospel Choir. The sun was shining, and it was a beautiful day!

On Thursday, 11th December, it is the Wellswood Xmas Fayre from 5pm until 9pm.
