By Ruth Tshoukas, Timebank Broker for Paignton

Torbay Timebank involves all sorts of different skills, from visiting someone at home who can’t get out, to fixing a dripping tap.

The beauty of it is that you can join but only commit yourself to something you really want to do.

You can stop at any time if you are not enjoying what you are doing.

If you would like to find out more about the Timebank, come to one of our regular meetings at the Bright Bean Café in Preston opposite Tesco.

We are there from 2pm every Wednesday, and at the Crafty Fox in Foxhole on the first Friday of the month from 10.30am.

We are also at the Hyperspace café in Lidl Square in Paignton every Tuesday from 10.30am. Come along for a coffee and to meet others.

The Big Exchange continues to happen, the next one is at the Hyperspace café in Lidl’s Square in Paignton from 11am to 3pm on Tuesday, December 6 – a chance to bring something you want to swap for a possible gift for you to give at Christmas.

On Saturday, December 10, there will be another Big Exchange from 11am to 2pm at the Community Café and Help Hub in Temperance Street, Torquay. Get in touch to find out more. This could be an opportunity to find some lovely Christmas presents and to wrap them while you are there.

On Monday, December 12, we have a Big Exchange at All Saints’ Church in Bampfylde Road, Torquay, from 3pm to 5pm. We hope people will bring lots of unwanted toys to exchange for ‘new’ ones! Make a note of the dates. When we held an exchange at The Willows, one lady found just what she was looking for – a lovely smart suitcase for her holiday.

No money changes hands, just bring along items that you no longer want and choose something that you do. It’s a way of exchanging goods rather than time. While you are there, find out about the Timebank, and think about what you can offer to someone else. If you can do small handyman-type jobs, there are people who would love to meet you!

Torbay Together is the online platform for the Timebank – Register on the platform, then you need to do a little bit more and fill in another form to join the Timebank. If you don’t use a computer, I can help. Come along to one of our regular meetings.
