A sample of what’s happening in Ellacombe & Plainmoor – Community Matters

Check-in here to sample a taster of community activities in the Ellacombe & Plainmoor area…

On every 2nd Friday of the month, Singing for Fun comprises songs, memories, refreshments, and chat, and takes place in Victoria Park Christian Centre in St Marychurch Road (opposite Lidl) from 2:30pm to 4pm and costs £2.

Just around the back of the Christian Centre, the Turning Heads charity operates a cafe where you can enjoy drinks and vegetarian meals in exchange for a donation. The cafe is open- from Tuesday to Thursday, 10am – 2pm.

Or you can amble down to the Salvation Army, Market Street on a Thursday from 10am – 12.30pm to their ‘Take-A-Break’ and have coffee, cake and conversation as well as having a look around their ‘New to You’ shop.

There are plenty more activities happening right across Torbay which you can find out about by contacting your local Community Builder. You’ll find their details at www.torbaycommunities.com/builders.

As you may be aware, the frequency of the No. 65 Community Bus route has been reduced due to a lack of volunteer drivers.  If you fancy driving a community bus and have a D1 on your licence, you will be welcome to have a trial to see if it’s for you. Call Kelly Bedoyan for more information at 07816 407495

We are in the process of getting a magazine team together for issue 4 of the Ellacombe & Plainmoor Community Magazine.  Whether you fancy having a go at writing copy, contributing ideas, helping with distribution, or using your design and computer skills for the magazine please get in touch with me on 07702 557723 to join the team.

The Ellacombe Community Partnership run the Torbay Community Café & Help Hub at Temperance Street, which extends a warm welcome to everyone. The Café is open every weekday from 10am to 3pm (the kitchen closes at 2:15pm).  On Tuesday and Friday, there is a special meal comprising a main course and a dessert for £5.  On Tuesday from 1pm there is Bingo with prizes and the meal on a Friday is followed by games.   It is also a place where people can come to be referred for benefits and energy advice. Just pop in to find out more.
