Torbay Communities works across Torbay to reduce isolation and loneliness. Sadly, thousands of people in Torbay become isolated. Torbay Communities aim is to make loneliness a thing of the past. We couldn’t achieve positive change without Good Neighbours. These are people that gift their time and skills to help others.

There are so many ways to help. This could be shopping, picking up prescriptions, telephone befriending or visiting lonely people at home. And goodness it makes a difference.

Ann is in her nineties. She seldom leaves her house. Her daughter lives abroad and her remaining friends also struggle to visit her. Ann doesn’t see a friendly face from one day to the next. After a lifetime of be a parent, working, helping others Ann felt utterly worthless. Then we matched a Good Neighbour, Paula, with Ann. They got on brilliantly. Paula visits weekly for a chat and a cuppa. Ann has something to look forward too.  Paula even helps Ann to video chat with her daughter. Life is now good. Ann and Paula have a wonderful friendship.

Sometimes we take things for granted. Just popping to the shop, buying a magazine, or a bite to eat in a café. Our Good Neighbours make a difference in a number of ways.

Colin is a Good Neighbour to William. They only live a few streets away. William’s declining mobility makes shopping impossible.  Colin helps by picking up shopping and prescriptions. It makes a massive difference. William gets to see a friendly face and even a short chat shows that he isn’t alone.
