The Woodward Charitable Trust only makes grants for core costs rather than specific projects as the Trust recognises that smaller charities can find these hard to fund. Trustees only fund organisations that support at least one of the following three target groups and particularly look to fund projects that help families and young people and that are aiming to improve the life chances of their beneficiaries.

  1. Children and Young People (up to 25 years)
  2. Disadvantaged Families
  3. Prisoners and Ex-Offenders

The Trust likes projects that promote community cohesion and the development of skills that will change the outlook and outcomes for the users. Organisations that promote volunteering and involve both past and present users in their operations or management are encouraged. A full list of recent awards is available on the website. This includes a mix of youth and community groups, play projects, activity clubs etc.

The Woodward Charitable Trust also set aside funds for summer playschemes for children from disadvantaged backgrounds between the ages of 5-16 years. A total of 44 grants for summer play schemes were approved in June 2023. The next round will open in April 2024 with successful applicants informed by the end of June 2024.

Deadline: Applications the General Fund can be submitted throughout the year. Check the website for details.
