25 Jul Preston bursting with life in the summer months
Whilst writing this article it is a glorious warm sunny day, I think about the coming summer weeks ahead, school holidays, and our peak time to welcome the influx of visitors. Those coming to the bay to make holiday memories. I feel extremely lucky to live in a beautiful part of the country our coast and natural surroundings are outstanding and I’m thinking of the outdoors and the activity opportunities on our doorstep.
Preston is bursting with life, especially in the summer months. Some locals have enquired about some gentle local walks on the flat. So we’ll have a go at starting one!
Preston Weekly Walks – starting Tuesday, August 13th, then every Tuesday through to 1st October! Starting at noon at the far left end of Preston Beach, Marine Parade. Each week we will walk on the flat down to the Shoreline Restaurant at Paignton Beach. Then stop at a different place for a cuppa! Please come and join me when you can for a gentle, refreshing walk along our beautiful seafront. Dogs are welcome too as we are not walking on the beach.
Some other walks in the bay…
South Paignton Walk and Talk AMBLERS – Meet every Friday, 10:30 at a different location – usually close to parking or a bus stop. Walks are shortish 1.5 – 2 miles and flattish, generally finishing with a cuppa at a nearby café or pub. These walks are run by my colleague Gill (Community Builder), Please call or email her for more info – Tel: 07884 887063 or email – [email protected].

Do you want to have a say about what happens in your community? (Read below it’s the ideal opportunity).
What is a Community Partnership?
Community Partnerships provide an opportunity for people who live or work in the different parts of Torbay to discuss issues of common concern, influence the way in which services are provided and improve their local area. There are Community Partnerships for every ward in Torbay, some working in partnership with the adjacent ward, and others with more than one per ward. But what does this mean? It’s about getting local people together to decide what is important to them and what needs improving in their area
Preston Community Partnership – Live or work in Preston! Join us to make a difference in your community! We meet once a month at People’s Parkfield to discuss community projects and issues. If you are interested please visit our website. https://www.prestoncommunitypartnership.co.uk or Find us on Facebook.

A Friendly bench in Preston Baptist Church garden
Friendly Bench Update
The Minister at Preston Baptist Church, Rev James Brown was so impressed with the friendly bench on the path at the front of the church and the impact it could have on the community that I gave him two plaques for their two new benches in the church café garden. These benches can help reduce loneliness, boost wellbeing, and people can feel more connected to their community.
The friendly benches encourage friendship and conversations. Look out for these benches around the bay.
