23 Jul Legacies of Hope & Change in Preston, Paignton

Many of you will remember the Baton of Hope, which visited Torbay last September. It was a powerful and moving day, giving people who had been bereaved by suicide the opportunity to carry the baton and share their stories. The event brought people together, encouraged open conversations about mental health, and highlighted the importance of hope and support. 

The legacy of the Baton of Hope will continue in many ways, helping to strengthen suicide prevention across our local community. A number of initiatives are already in progress, a peer support group will begin meeting at Oldway School, Paignton, from September, with the exact date to be confirmed.  These initiatives aim to keep the conversation going, reduce stigma, and ensure that anyone affected by suicide can find understanding, support, and hope within our community. 

A new local support group is being launched by an inspiring member of our community. Cow Slip Chums is a welcoming group for anyone whose life has been affected by cancer.  The first coffee morning will take place on Tuesday 11th August at 11.00 a.m. at the Livermead Cliff Hotel and 3pm on 27th August at St Pauls Church, Preston for a monthly gathering, (Support Group). Whether you are living with cancer, recovering, supporting a loved one, or have been affected in any way, you are warmly invited to come along for a chat. You’ll find a friendly group of people who understand, share similar experiences, and want to offer support, encouragement, and companionship. Everyone is welcome. Parkfield hosted a fantastic Community Open Day, bringing together local organisations and families for a fun-filled day of activities. The BMX track was open throughout the day, alongside an exciting skate jam that attracted participants and spectators of all ages.  A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make the event such a success. Special thanks to Cycle Torbay for providing bikes for the BMX track, and to Megan and her team of coaches, whose enthusiasm and support made the BMX activities possible.  Also thanks to Parky Skate Crew, Sound Communities, Tail Blazers, Parkfield Community Grow, and ECOE.  

Parkfield are looking for local families and volunteers to help start a Parkfield Litter Picking Group.
