01 Sep Keeping track of what’s on in Cockington, Chelston & Livermead – Community Matters
It has been an eventful summer for sure. Lots of great events and community spirit. I hope you all had a blast!
I am very happy with how the volunteers at Torquay station have progressed since undergoing their induction with Community Rail this month. The enthusiasm and work rate have been fantastic! If you would be interested in getting involved as a volunteer then please do reach out to me at [email protected], as I will be looking to arrange another training day later this year for the next cohort of volunteers.
The Chelston Workshops had a great reception on their open day this month, with many people turning out to support the SHED and a handful of people signing up as new members. The current members felt overjoyed by the amount of interest in the workshops and are looking at another open day later this year to keep building on the positive momentum.
The Sculpture Trail at Cockington is open and if you have not already then I highly recommend checking this out! It runs through until the end of October and it features a range of super interesting builds. You can also set your sights on an ex-BBC Studios Tardis, A Barbie and Ken in Space feature, A Yoda, A Black Hole, Revolving Planets and much more.
This month I will be teaming up with our local ward councillors in offering a drop-in session for local people to come, see us, and ask questions. This will become a monthly thing. This month we will be at Café Del Mar in Chelston, Torquay on Thursday 7 September from 11am-1pm approximately.
From Wednesday 6 September, weekly sessions will be on offer for older adults and younger individuals with exercise limitations. These sessions will run weekly from 11am-11:45am at Suellas Dance Centre. They will involve 45 minutes of standing (cardiovascular and strength) but chairs will be available for holding onto or sitting if required. The first class will be free and then just £7 per session. If you have, any questions please Contact Lucinda on 07900906056.
A free coffee morning hosted by Torbay Communities will be taking place at the Torbay Community Café & Help Hub on Temperance ST Torquay on Monday 4 September from 11am for people to find out more about Torbay’s Time-bank. Apple Day will be back on October 15 from 11am-4pm.
Have a Super September!
